The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday transferred two top officials, including City Police Commissioner T K Rajendran, on the directions of the Election Commission.

In the changes effected by the Home Department on the directive of the EC, Rajendran was replaced by Ashutosh Shukla, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Enforcement, Chennai.

C Sylendra Babu, ADGP, Coastal Security Group, Chennai, was appointed ADGP, Law and Order, Chennai, in place of J K Tripathy, a Home department order said.

The government had yesterday appointed K P Maghendran as DGP (Elections), entrusting with him all poll-related duties following a direction by the EC.

The government had made it clear that Maghendran, earlier DGP (Training), need not report to the state DGP.

A slew of IAS and IPS officers, including district collectors, had been transferred at the insistence of EC.

Polling to 234 Assembly constituencies in the state will be held on May 16.
