Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated the irst-phase of the much awaited Chennai Metro Rail through a video-conference on Monday.Here are some details about the Chennai MetroThe ambitious project is being done at a total cost of Rs 14,600 croresThe metro will cover a total length on 45 kms. The 10-km overhead metro stretch inaugurated now will connect Alandur in south Chennai to Koyambedu and the journey will be covered in 18 minutes.The tickets for a Metro ride range from Rs 10 to Rs 40.There are five stations between Koyambedu and Alandur, the dwell time at each station will be 35 seconds. (, CMBT, Arumbakkam, vadapalani, AshokNagar, Ekkattuthangal).A metro train can accommodate 1,200 people and can travel at maximum speed of 72km/hour.The first test run of the Metro rail was flagged off by J Jayalalithaa on 06-11-2013 at Koyambedu.
