In a shocking incident in Chennai, a man stabbed his daughter-in-law and her brother to death on Monday evening after a heated argument at his house in Pallikaranai.

Varalakshmi and her brother Kothandaraman, died on the spot and their bodies were sent to the Chromepet government hospital.

The daughter-in-law was working as an IT employee in Bengaluru.

The IT employee’s sister Bhavani was also stabbed by the man and was hospitalised for multiple injuries.

The deceased, Varalakshmi, (26) and her brother Kothandaraman, (30), had come to her husband’s house in Pallikaranai on Monday.

According to reports, Varalakshmi and her husband, Vinayagamoorthy, were living separately for more than three years. Varalakshmi was living with her parents in Bengaluru.

The investigation officer told The Times of India that Varalakshmi had refused to patch-up with her husband and after the talks failed, they decided to get divorced.

On Monday evening, Varalakshmi and her family members decided to talk to her father-in-law Kosalan, an auto-driver, as her husband was not at home. After a heated argument between Kosalan and Kothandaraman, the father-in-law went to the kitchen and brought a knife and stabbed Varalakshmi and her siblings.

After hearing their screams, neighbours came running and held Kosalan.

Later, Kosalan went and surrendered at the Pallikaranai police station and a case was registered.

The New Indian Express reported that Kosalan called the local police station and confessed to the crime. Then, police reached his house at Sai Balaji Nagar and arrested him.

Police are investigating the case and the motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained.
