Shocking CCTV visuals from Chennai show an out of control car hitting at least two motorbikes and injuring three people severely, right after it crashed through a barricade. The red car can be seen speeding towards the barricades on the Mappedu-Agaram main road off the Tambaram camp road, around 11.30 am on Saturday. In a matter of seconds, it crashes on to the barricade and takes the barricade along before hitting two bikes which were driving past the barricades.

The car then speeds away without stopping, after knocking down four persons from the motorbikes. A frantic man who was knocked down rushes to check on a woman who was the pillion rider on his bike, while the rider of the other motorbike lay unconscious with the onlookers rushing to check on him.

Speaking to TNM about the accident, a police officer from the Traffic Investigation Wing, Chromepet said, “The car knocked down four motorists out of which three suffered injuries and were taken to Chromepet Government Hospital. Out of the three injured persons, two have been shifted to other hospitals like Global hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for further treatment since their injuries are severe,” he said.

In the CCTV video that is doing the rounds, people watching the video can be heard saying that the same car had caused another accident at a different spot on the same day, that the unidentified people who were watching the CCTV visuals had witnessed.

The severely injured persons undergoing treatment have been identified as Gladson (18) and Shanthi (38). Arumugam (43), Shanthi’s husband, suffered minor injuries and is still being treated at Chromepet Government hospital.

The police, meanwhile, suspect that a minor might have been at the wheel and have registered a case. The vehicle and the driver who caused the accident are both missing as of Sunday evening.

Trigger warning: Sensitive visuals.
