ISTTamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam repeated the state’s earlier demand to permit the usage of the Tamil language in the Madras High Court. Speaking at the joint conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justies of High Courts, CM Panneerselvam said "If we are to take the administration of justice genuinely closer to the people, then it is absolutely imperative that the local language is used in the High Court, as is already being done in the state government and in the state Legislature," reported PTI . The statement might sound familiar, as former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had said something along the same lines. In 2013, Jayalalithaa had made a similar demand saying that if it was imperative to use the local language in the High Court in order to take ‘the administration of justice genuinely closer to the people'. “If we are to take the administration of justice genuinely closer to the people, then it is absolutely imperative that the local language is used in the High Court, as is already being done in the State government and in the State Legislature.” she had then said. Multiple requests to permit the usage of Tamil in the Madras High Court has been denied in the past.
