Thiruparankundram AIADMK legislator AK Bose passed away from a cardiac arrest at midnight on Thursday. The 69-year-old legislator who was staying in Madurai's Jaihindpuram complained of chest pain. However, he was pronounced dead as soon as his family took him to a private hospital in Madurai on Wednesday night, according to reports.

Bose had not been keeping well for the last few years and was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. He died at around 1 am on Thursday, Madurai North Assembly Constituency MLA VV Rajan Chellappa, who is also AIADMK District Secretary of Madurai, told The Hindu.

Bose had contested thrice for AIADMK in the constituency and won two times. Before him, AIADMK candidate SM Seenivel who had won in Thiruparankundram, too passed away from cardiac arrest. It was following this that Bose was elected MLA in the bye-elections conducted on November 19, 2017.

After contesting and losing in the Thiruparankundram constituency in 2004, Bose won the elections for the first time in 2006. He was in the news in 2007 for flinging his hat at the assembly speaker. Following this, he was suspended from the party for a few days.

He was again declared the party's candidate in the 2011 elections but was given the Madurai North seat as Thiruparankundram was reserved for the party's DMDK ally. Previously, in the 2004 election, Bose also contested the Madurai Lok Sabha seat but was unsuccessful.

The constituency will witness a second bye-election in two years following the death of two elected MLAs. Bose was one of the MLAs who was undecided about his loyalties when former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's close aide VK Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran were expelled from the party in 2017.

Bose is survived by his wife Bhagyalakshmi and two sons.
