Shortly before the AIADMK MLAs’ meeting that has been rumoured to take up the elevation of party General Secretary VK Sasikala, a man was thrashed by AIADMK Minister Rajendra Balaji for making a slight against her.

In footage of the incident with News X - reportedly shot in Chennai on Sunday morning - a man can be seen being beaten up for tearing up a poster of Sasikala. He is assaulted by at least four or five other men.

Speaking to News X, AIADMK representative C Rajasekaran raised questions over the authenticity and truth of the footage. “I have strong doubts; the person indulging in tearing posters can’t be an AIADMK member. Police must investigate who is the person who has been asked to tear the posters, who was behind it. I don’t know where the visuals were shot. All this needs to be investigated.”

He added that past history showed that incidents of dissent were solved because the party has always been a highly disciplined one.

He also said that those outside the party should not intervene in the internal matters of the AIADMK, and if the party’s legislators chose to elevate Sasikala to the post of CM, that was within their rights.

Another party representative, Apsara Reddy, also said that there was a strong popular demand for Sasikala to become the CM. “The decision is upto Chinamma. The mood is jubilant here, and we all want her to be the CM. But the decision is upto her."

She added, "Nobody is demeaning OPS, he's a good Chief Minister. But we all want Chinamma to become the CM."
