After 13 years, MDMK general secretary Vaiko shared the dais with DMK leaders on Tuesday, for the celebration of 75 years of party organ ‘Murasoli’.

At the event, he spoke about his mentor Karunanidhi and about his articles and editorials.

Vaiko shared the dais with several leaders at the YMCA grounds in Kottivakkam.

Vaiko was expelled from the DMK in 1993 for conspiring against DMK president M Karunanidhi.

According to the DMK leaders, Vaiko had last attended a DMK meeting after the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.

In the 2006 assembly elections, Vaiko had joined the AIADMK alliance distancing himself from the party, reported The Times of India.

The other leaders spoke about Murasoli, Karunanidhi, MK Stalin and the need for the party to act swiftly in the current political scenario. But, Vaiko stuck to speaking about his mentor and the party.

Both Vaiko and Stalin exchanged shawls when Vaiko was called to speak. Vaiko spoke for almost 30 minutes on the occasion.

Vaiko quoted several editorials in Murasoli in which Karunanidhi had praised him. “Murasoli and Karunanidhi cannot be separated and both will cross 100 years. Karunanidhi will once again speak to his cadres beginning with the words `udanpirappe' (the term Karunanidhi used in letters to address his cadres),” said Vaiko, reported ToI.

He also said that he wished to see a government under the leadership of DMK working president MK Stalin. “It is not for the sake of forming a government, but to protect the Tamil race,” he said.

On the occasion, MK Stalin said that at the time, all the political parties must come together to fight for social justice.

He added that whether AIADMK government falls or not, there is going to be an awakening in the state.

The BJP government is trying to take advantage of the current scenario and creating confusion in the party, said Stalin, reported The Hindu.
