A Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) cadre has been issued death threats by the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), for a Facebook post he put up, criticising the SDPI.

Reports by the media say that the house of Sreejith, the DYFI unit secretary of the Poovachal area in Thiruvananthapuram, was attacked by SDPI members on Sunday.

A report by News18 says that a Facebook post by Sreejith, criticising SDPI-PFI for their role in the murder of Students Federation of India (SFI) leader Abhimanyu, is what provoked them.

The report states that immediately after Sreejith’s post appeared on Facebook, the members of the SDPI were out with death threats and cyber bullying.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the cyber warriors of the CPI (M) had come out in support of Sreejith.

According to the News18 report, Sreejith had received a call telling him that if he doesn’t take off the post, he will have to face the consequences.

The caller also allegedly threatened to attack his family members.

Based on a police complaint filed by the CPI (M) leaders, it was confirmed from the investigation that the threats were received from a number which is registered in Hyderabad.

It was on the night after the police complaint was filed that Sreejith’s house was attacked.

A report by Mumbai Mirror says that according to the police, members belonging to SDPI pelted stones on 22-year-old Sreejith’s house in Poovachal panchayat at around 1 am on Sunday.

At least eight persons were reportedly present at the time of the attack.

CPI (M) member, PS Prasheed, is reported to have said that the attackers fled when the neighbours came out on hearing the noise.

Meanwhile, Kerala police have launched a massive crackdown on SDPI members across the state following the murder of 20-year-old Abhimanyu, an SFI leader at Maharajas college, Ernakulam on July 1.
