Following the death of three elderly people in Chennai two weeks ago, a 61-year-old retired scientist was found in his house in Kanchipuram district on Monday. 

Babu Rao, the deceased, was a retired scientist of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research at Kalpakkam and was working as a guest lecturer at Hindustan University for the last one-and-a-half-years.

 Police told The Times of India that two steel fabrication workers Basheer, (23) and Satish Kumar, (24), hailing from Pudupattinam near Kalpakkam came to Babu Rao’s house for some repair work around 9:30 am. When they did not get any response, they went to the back door and found it open. When they peeped in, they found Babu Rao lying dead on the floor. 

They immediately informed that police and a team from the Sadras police station reached the spot and sent his body for post mortem to the government hospital in Chengalpet. 

A police officer told TOI that Babu Rao was attacked with a wooden stool and he suffered injuries on his right ear and forehead. He added that the almirah on the ground floor bedroom was intact. 

Raja Lakshmi, Babu Rao’s wife had gone to Andhra Pradesh on Saturday for a family function. Police said that no valuables were missing from the house. The keys of the almirah were usually kept in the cupboard and no valuables were missing. Moreover, a bag with Rs 45,000 was kept untouched.

Police added that the murder might have happened on Sunday night as Babu’s Rao’s daughter Josthna and her husband Mallaiah had visited the house and left around 8:30 pm.

His son Viswa Chaitanya, (24) is studying in Sweden and is on his way back to Chennai. Babu Rao and his wife were living in a three-storeyed house in Bharat Nagar and had moved in a decade ago, police told TOI.

However, a case has been registered police are investigating the death.
