Caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday said that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would play a major role in national politics in the formation of a 'federal front', after the Legislative Assembly elections being held in the state next month.
The TRS chief said that national parties like the Congress and BJP had failed to live up to the expectation of the people.
Speaking at an election rally in Khammam district, KCR said, "Narendra Modi was given power with lot of hopes, but there is nothing great he has done. (He) has not done anything for people. A definite 'federal front' that resists and stops them and enhances powers of states needs to come."
“I will ensure that a Federal Front is formed that will ensure just governance at the Centre. I have already done some work on this. I will not make tall promises but assure you that TRS will play a role to make sure that any government at the Centre will take into account the needs of the States and ensure justice for the people,” he told the gathering.
KCR, recently returned to the election campaign after a short gap, which he largely spent at his fortified farmhouse near Gajwel, chalking out plans for the party.
Earlier this year, KCR said that it was the successive flawed policies of the Congress and the BJP governments, which had hindered India's progress on the global ladder.
Stressing the need for decentralisation, he had called for transferring subjects like agriculture, education, rural and urban development, drinking water and health to the state.
"Why should the Centre keep subjects like laying roads in villages and paying wages under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)?" he had asked.
The Centre, he said, should instead focus on key issues like diplomacy.
