The Telangana Advocates Joint Action Committee on Sunday lodged a police complaint against Union Law minister Sadananda Gowda, alleging that he made a false promise that the Andhra Pradesh high court would be bifurcated soon.

The complaint was lodged in Hyderabad with the Saroornagar police.

According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, the advocates alleged that Gowda made the statement during a campaign for the MLC elections at LB Nagar in March, 2015 and assured advocates that Telangana will get its own high court soon.

"Article 214 of the Constitution says that each state should have a High Court of its own, but the minister and the Central government are delaying the process due to pressure from AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union minister Venkaiah Naidu," DC quotes JAC member K Goverdhan Reddy as stating in the complaint.

The advocates also alleged that Gowda made the statement for political mileage. The police have forwarded the complaint for legal opinion.
