The Telangana government has reportedly started digging up historical documents and maps related to the AOC area in Secunderabad to build its case against the closing of the Gough road, which recently received another deadline extension by the army.

The Times of India reported: 

The government was forced to dig up the past as the Army has been claiming that they had built the roads in the Secunderabad Cantonment, including those around AOC, during the British era. However, government officials maintain that all roads were laid by the Nizam before the land was given free of cost to the British Army to establish their cantonment.

Quoting sources in the GHMC, the TOI report further states that the chief minister directed officials to go through historical documents, records and maps to establish when the roads in the Cantonment area were laid, ahead of Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar's visit to the area sometime this month.

In November last year, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wrote to Parrikar, and extended the deadline to May 31, to give the GHMC time to build alternative roads.

Last month, the ministry ordered a further extension of the deadline to November 30.
