More than a month after a class 10 student, Poornima Sai, went missing from her Hyderabad home, the police have changed the case from missing to one of kidnap.

According to reports, police took the step after a recent case review, even though they were not able to find any evidence to confirm that she was kidnapped.

The Class 10 student had left home on June 7 and told her parents that she was going to school in Nizampet, but did not return. Her parents later filed a missing complaint at the Bachupally police station.

The police said that Poornima mainly used WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.

Before she left, she deactivated all her social media accounts and deleted WhatsApp history, along with call logs on her phone. 

Police had managed to recover some of the deleted data, but there was 'nothing useful' in it.

They also spoke to Poornima's classmates and read their chats with her as well, but found nothing suspicious. 

Even her friends and neighbours told the police that nobody knew what led to her disappearance. 

"Dressed in black colour leggings and an ash colour T shirt, she is around 5 feet tall, and wears glasses. She can speak Telugu and English fluently. The missing girl's parents are deeply depressed," the Cyberabad had earlier said, in a missing notice.

A call from Chennai during the investigation, suggested that a man may have spotted Poornima along with a boy, on the highway leading to Bengaluru.

However, nothing concrete was found, even after a team was dispatched to Chennai, to conduct checks and obtain CCTV footage from the local police.

Meanwhile, parents of the girl continue to be worried about their child.
