Medak SI suicide case: Hyderabad HC asks why no FIR against officers named in suicide note

Written by : TNM Staff

As the family of sub-inspector Ramakrishna Reddy, who committed suicide on August 17 continues to demand a CBI probe, the Hyderabad High Court on Friday asked why the Dy Sp and Circle Inspector were not named in the FIR.

Reddy, who had shot himself with his service revolver at his residence in Medak district alleging harassment from seniors, had named Dy SP Sridhar and Circle Inspector Venkataiah in his suicide note.

Initially, police had remained tight-lipped about the suicide note.

After the incident, Ramakrishna’s family alleged that his superiors had been pressuring him for Rs 15 lakh in bribes, and this was what caused the SI to take his own life.

According to Som Reddy, Ramakrishna’s brother, the SI, had been depressed for nearly 15 days. He would regularly call his brother-in-law and tell him that his seniors were abusing and harassing him to collect large amounts of bribe.

Three days into the probe, the investigating officer probing the suicide was removed on August 21.

The Additional Superintendent of Police Pratap Reddy was removed after he had concluded it was a case of suicide due to depression even before the medical reports were out.

Ramakrishna Reddy was a native of Bakkamantram Gudem village in Mathampally madal of Nalgonda district. He had sent his wife and two children to their parental home two days back.

Before joining the police force in 2005, he had also worked in the Army, according to his relatives.
