Journalists protest blackout of TV 9 and ABN by Telangana government

The News Minute |  July 8, 2014 | 11:50 AM ISTThe police on Monday arrested 168 journalists for protesting near the Telengana secretariat against the government’s decision to ban the broadcast on TV 9, ABN Andhrajyothi news channels. The protest group demanded that the ban should be immediately taken off. The Saifabad police arrested 140 journalists on Monday by 11 AM. Twenty eight journalists were arrested later. Most of the journalists were working at TV9 and ABN. They were all booked under section 151 of CrPC, and were released later. In June, both the channels faced heavy criticism from the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for showing Telengana leaders in a “cheap” manner. On June 16, cable TV operators stopped telecasting the channels.
