Hyderabad Uni VC orders Rohith Vemula protesters to be evicted, students refuse

Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Appa Rao Podile, has sent a notice to the student union president asking them to remove all the tents at the shopping complex in the campus which were put up at the spot of protests following Rohith Vemula’s death.

In a notice dated May 20, the VC gives the students union 48 hour to remove the tents.

Though these tents were put after Rohith's Suicide on January 17, the ‘Velivada’ enclosure, or Dalit colony, was put up in the shopping complex by the five Dalit students, including Rohith Vemula, who were suspended earlier.

Rohith Vemula and other four Dalit students stayed there before Rohith's death, and continue to stay in the Velivada. The other four Dalit scholars have maintained that they will sleep in Velivada till Rohith Vemula got justice.

Earlier, the stupa made for Rohith Vemula was ordered to be taken down.

One of the members of Ambedkar Students’ Association, Sreerag told The News Minute,  "As we told you earlier, the hostel eviction is suspicious and they are purposely vacating the hostels so that they can stop the Rohith Vemula movement. We won't allow them to remove the Velivada at any cost. We will continue our struggle and for this I don't mind to go to jail again".
