Hyderabad school principal hangs self after harassment by male colleague

In a tragic incident, a 36-year-old school principal killed herself after alleged harassment by a male colleague in Puppalguda in Ranga Reddy district on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

According to reports, the victim Srilatha was being stalked for a long time by the accused R Sridhar.

While Srilatha was the principal (Education), Sridhar was the principal (Administration) at the Trident School in Narsingi.

The Deccan Chronicle reported:

(Srilatha) hanged herself inside the bathroom of her house on Monday night. After her husband approached the police and filed a complaint, cops arrested the suspect R. Sridhar for abetment to suicide. According to the victim's family, Srilatha was extremely upset as she was being constantly stalked by her colleague. 

“Sridhar is a member of the school board and had been using that to stalk the victim. He kept on asking her for sexual favours,” a relative told DC.

The report also added that Srilatha was afraid to lodge a complaint as her job was at stake. Sridhar is now in police custody.

Recently, the Hyderabad police's 'SHE teams' had released statistics on crimes against women committed in the city, and said that 1,296 cases were registered this year.

"Close to 40% of the people caught were from the 18-20 age bracket, while 25% were from the 20-40 age bracket. Minors constituted 23% of the people caught. We also found people older than 55 harassing women," Swati Lakra, additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes), Hyderabad and head of the SHE teams, told the media at a news conference.
