‘Farmers contesting in Nizamabad are also fighting against BJP, Congress’: MP Kavitha

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)’s sitting Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday said that the turmeric farmers, who are also contesting in her constituency as a protest, were actually fighting against the BJP and the Congress. "Farmers and I stand together against the national parties,” she said while addressing the media.

174 farmers in the Nizamabad constituency have filed their nominations as a protest to highlight their plight and demand a national turmeric board to ensure a steady price for the product.

Kavitha exuded confidence when she said that the TRS party would win with a huge margin. “Not just in Nizamabad, the TRS party would win with a major margin in the entire state,” she added.

Kavitha, who is seeking re-election from Nizamabad, claimed that both Congress and BJP failed the people. She said that the Fasal Bima Yojana proposed by the NDA government has a lot of loopholes, although the BJP boasts a lot about it.

While describing the BJP as an 'arrogant' party, she added, “There are women ministers in Narendra Modi’s cabinet but that is not enough. What is important is that the government should work for the welfare of women.”

“Modi ji gave many hopes to the people but nothing actually happened. And no one is taking Congress party seriously this time. Congress party cannot be called as a national party now,” she said.

She also said that the TRS will not ally with either the BJP or Congress. “We won’t align with anyone. TRS is a fighter party. TRS will fight for the right. We will fight like how we did earlier. We are sure that Telangana people’s love and support are with the TRS party,” said the MP.

Taking potshots at Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Kavitha said, “It is funny that he talks about TRS being a family party, forgetting his family’s domination in the Congress party.”

Supporting AIMIM chief Assadudin Owaisi’s candidature, she said, “We want Assadudin to remain in the parliament, and along with us, keep on raising the issues of Telangana. Let's strengthen the voice of Telangana in the parliament.”
