A committee that was constituted by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to study the collapse of various buildings in the city, has submitted its preliminary report to the authority.

The Deccan Chronicle reported:

The committee has observed that the main causes of formwork and scaffolding failure are improper stripping and shore removal, inadequate bracing, vibration, unstable foundations under supports, poor maintenance of plumb and inadequate control of concrete placement including lack of attention to formwork details. The committee has made seven recommendations for builders, architects, structural engineers and contractors including site engineers and supervisors.

On Saturday, eight people were injured after an under-construction structure in Jubilee Hills collapsed.

The Hindu reported:

The structure, a duplex residential building under construction, collapsed when the slab for the second floor was being laid...GHMC officials, who visited the spot, said the centring structures could not take the load of concrete work and gave way. A similar explanation was given for collapse of a structure at Jubilee Hills Film Nagar Cultural Club in July which claimed two lives.

Last week, the rain that lashed several parts of the city also resulted in several wall and building collapses with state IT minister K T Rama Rao asking people to vacate dilapidated buildings.

Following a few more rounds of discussion, the GHMC committee will submit its final report within four weeks.
