In a rare event, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao received praise from residents of his neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh, with members of the Yadava Sangham performing a ‘milk abhishekam’ to his portrait.

The youth were performing the ritual after KCR’s announcement that he would ensure that someone from the Yadav community was given a Rajya Sabha seat and an MLC post in Telangana.

Addressing mediapersons at the Press Club in Vijayawada, the members performed the ‘abhishekam’ to KCR’s portrait.

They also told reporters that they would conduct a special rally from Vijayawada to Hyderabad, and urged other political parties to follow in the Telangana Chief Minister’s footsteps.

“We will conduct special pujas in Kanakadurga temple and then visit Hyderabad to hand over the prasadam to KCR thanking him for the gesture,” one of the Yadava Samgham leader was quoted as saying.

They said that they would conduct a special ritual everyday, until KCR keeps his promise.

The members of the Sangham also highlighted KCR’s promise to procure and distribute several lakh sheep over the next two years to Yadava families, traditionally dependent on sheep rearing.

Following up on his promise, in June last year, KCR launched the massive sheep distribution programme aimed at reviving livestock economy in the state.

At the time, the state government said that it planned to distribute 15 million sheep among 30 lakh Golla and Kuruma (Yadav) families with 75% subsidy over a span of two years. The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 10,000 crore to the state exchequer.

The Chief Minister launched his brainchild scheme at Kondapala in his Gajwel Assembly constituency. On the occasion, as many as 825 beneficiaries were handed over sheep.

"We are confident about creating an economy of Rs 25,000 crore in the state within three years," he said while asking the beneficiaries to take care of their sheep by following the government's guidelines.
