A week after Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh tweeted about madrassas, accusing them of spreading hatred, he has been booked based on a complaint filed against him in Hyderabad by Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT).

The case was filed at Dabeerpura Police Station in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

“We have booked a case under section 295 A of IPC which is deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs, against Digvijay Singh,” said police.

The case has been filed by Amjed Ullah Khan of MBT - an organisation working for the Muslim community.

“I waited for one week to see if Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi react to this or not, but nothing happened, which means they are all accepting his comment on madrassas. That’s why I have come forward and filed a complaint,” said Amjed.

On February 21, the Congress leader had tweeted, “Is there a difference between Madarsas and Saraswati Shishu Mandir Schools run by RSS? I don't think so. Both spread Hatred. (sic)."

Soon after his comment he had faced criticism from several Muslim leaders and madrassa representatives.

“However, everybody reacted to his comment, but I was amazed that nobody filed a complaint against him. For little things, Muslim religious leaders conduct protests but there were no reactions from their side as well. Even the madrasa representatives who reacted, did not come forward to file a complaint. However, I have been following his activities since he was chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. He has been showing to the world that he supports Muslims, but now he finally revealed his real face,” Amjad added.
