Why was PWF renamed ‘Vijayakanth Ani’? Premalatha answers

Written by : TNM Staff

When the People’s Welfare Front (PWF) announced that they would fight the elections with the DMDK by their side, the front got named "Vijayakanth Ani" or Vijayakanth alliance. Though it wasn't clear whether this was an official name, the Tamil media started using the name almost immediately. So why is the alliance being called so? Here is this answer.

Addressing a public meeting, Premalatha, DMDK leader Vijayakanth’s wife said, “MDMK leader Vaiko said that if we go to a village and say Vijayakanth everyone will easily recognize us. And since Vaiko himself said that, we are using the name. So when neither the alliance leaders nor the people have any problem with this name, why does the media have an issue?" she asked.

She added again, “I do not understand what problem journalists have with the name.”

DMDK leader Vijayakanth on Wednesday had announced that he will be joining the PWF alliance. DMDK will contest in 124 seats, the PWF will contest in 110 seats.
