As a sign of protest, women judges and advocates in the Pudukkottai district picked up brooms to clean the compound of the Pudukkottai Court campus that had remained neglected by the Public Works Department (PWD) for a long time.This form of protest was to draw attention to the fact that despite the PWD appointing eight people for the purpose of cleaning, the campus always wore a neglected look, according to Pudukkottai court advocates, reported New Indian Express.After no efforts from the PWD despite frequent appeals from court authorities, 20 women advocates of the Pudukkottai court gathered at the campus and carried out a cleaning exercise, led by Pitchammal, a judge of Mahila court and Pushparani, a judicial magistrate.According to the report, A Ibrahim Babu, councilor of 35th ward of Pudukkottai municipality said, ”This public office compound comes under my ward. We send cleaners whenever any function or event takes place on the court campus. The PWD is responsible for the upkeep, but it failed to do its duty. It is highly deplorable when the situation has been reduced to this -- woman judges and advocates forced to take up brooms…”
