Villupuram girls’ suicide: ABVP seeks CBI probe

Written by : PTI

Following the suicide of three girls at a college in Villupuram district, BJP’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

Stating that his outfit had held 270 protest demonstrations on the suicide of girl students across the country, ABVP national General Secretary Vinay Bidre said CBI should enquire into the matter and sought justice for the victims and their families.

"It is not a small incident, there are contradictions from the side of the college management and police over the issue, the truth should be found out as to whether it was suicide or murder," he told reporters ahead of presiding over a public meeting at Chennai over the issue.

He sought a Bill by the State and Central governments, which would comprehensively address issues including manipulation of courses by "unscrupulous" college management, and unfair practices like collecting exorbitant fees and forcing students to choose a particular course.

He claimed that college campuses in Tamil Nadu do not have a "democratic atmosphere" for students to express their views and spoke about "unfair practices" of some institutions.

He also sought the resignation of State Education and Health ministers over the issue.
