Vellore Mayor issues unconditional apology over Jayalalithaa conviction

The News Minute | December 19, 2014 | 08:20 am ISTMayor of Vellore city, P Kathiyayani, issued an unconditional apology for condemning the Bangalore special court judge Michael D Cunha over his verdict on AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's conviction.She had read out a resolution at a council meet on September 30 condemning the judge, In her affidavit filed before the Madras High Court, she wrote,"I sincerely regret for having read out the said text before the commencement of the business of the council on September 30. I realise that no such text which is offensive and derogatory to the judiciary and more specifically to the judge concerned should have been read out in the meeting..." reported The New Indian ExpressIn November, the Madras High Court had asked the Vellore mayor to apologise. She was asked to issue a press release of the apology and also file an affidavit of the same in the court.Tweet
