TN Election Commission seizes Rs 5 crore reportedly from AIADMK worker

With about two weeks to go for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission on Friday purportedly seized another Rs 5 crore from a Chennai individual who is reportedly AIADMK functionary.

Puthiya Thalaimurai reported that the EC raided the Chennai residence of one Mani upon receiving an anonymous tip about him stashing unaccounted money.

A special team including members of the Income Tax department and EC raided his house on Friday morning.

On investigation, it was reported by the TV that Mani is the brother of Mathimalar, another AIADMK cadre who works for the Information Technology wing of the party.

Mani has reportedly claimed that he was related to one of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s close aide.

Earlier this week, on Sunday, two boxes containing unaccounted for cash worth Rs 4.7 crores was recovered from a posh apartment in Egmore, Chennai.

Till Monday, over Rs 40 crores unaccounted cash has been seized by the EC after the declaration of Model Code of Conduct in March.
