TASMAC sales during Pongal witness dramatic rise in 2016

In the past two years, the sale of alcohol in TASMAC shops during Pongal festival has gone up drastically with total sales of Rs 350 crores in 2016.

There has been an increase in sales of about Rs 75 crore from 2014.

According to Deccan Chronicle, the sale of alcohol in TASMAC shops in 2014 during Pongal was Rs 275 crore. TASMAC shops earned about Rs 158 crore per day during the festival. The usual average sale of alcohol on a daily basis was Rs 60-65 crore.

But the sales have increased dramatically. In 2016, TASMAC shops have earned Rs 350 crore during the festival period.

Currently, there are over 6,800 TASMAC shops in Tamil Nadu.
