Swathi Murder: Accused Ramkumar never switched off phone, say police

Days after the alleged suspect in the gruesome murder of Swathi was nabbed, it has now emerged that he never switched off his phone till he was arrested on Friday night.

The Hindu reports that investigators were quite shocked to find that Ramkumar's mobile phone was active and working in his native village Meenakshipuram near Sengottai in Tirunelveli district, after they identified him as the suspect.

“We took him into custody within one hour of ascertaining his involvement in the murder. Right from the scene of crime (Nungambakkam railway station) to his arrest in Meenakshipuram, he never switched off his mobile phone. He has made and received calls as usual…,” a senior police officer said.

He had been living anonymously at a private mansion in Choolaimedu from where the police recovered his bloodstained clothes.

“The phone was very much active. The other phone (recovered from him), which is suspected to be that of Swathi’s), was switched off. Analysis of the victim’s phone might give more leads on the motive,” the officer said.
