Protests continue after caste-Hindu dies from alleged violence by Dalits

Two days after a caste Hindu youth, who was beaten up by a group of Dalits for causing an accident, succumbed to his injuries, his relatives demanded the police to register a murder case by staging a road blockade in Periyasevalai village on Wednesday

According to the relatives, the victim, S Soundarrajan  a caste Hindu farm labourer from Periyasevalai village near Thiruvennainallur, was returning home on a two-wheeler on Thursday night after attending a marriage function.

According to The New Indian Express, near Periyasevalai Dalit colony, Soundarrajan’s bike hit another two-wheeler driven by Dalit youth from the colony. So the enraged youth and some of the Dalit villagers beat up Soundarrajan.

The two Dalit youth - Karnan  and K Ajay Babu - also sustained injuries in the accident. Soundarrajan was taken to the Government Mundiyambakkam Hospital while Karnan and Ajay Nabu were taken to the Thirukovilur and Ulundurpet GHs respectively.

However, on Tuesday morning, Soundarrajan’s condition turned critical following which which he was referred to the JIPMER hospital, Puducherry. But he died on the way.

Soundarrajan’s relatives refused to accept the body and they along with other caste Hindu villagers staged a road blockade.
