Murdered TN Dalit man Sankar's wife Kausalya attempts suicide, hospitalized

Kausalya, the wife of Dalit man Sankar who was hacked to death in March 2016 for marrying her, has reportedly attempted suicide.

She has since been admitted in Udumalpet government hospital and could be taken to Coimbatore for further treatment. 

Kausalya, who is from the influential Thevar caste, was also seriously injured during the attack on the couple on March 13. 

On May 11, Kausalya is reported to have consumed poison along with her dinner. She has been staying with the family of Sankar since the murder.

Kausalya is reported to have consumed a substance popularly used in villages to mix with cow-dung as an insecticide and colour. 

Sources close to the family say that since the murder, Kausalya has under tremendous pressure from law enforcement agencies who are doing their duty, and from the family and community of Sankar, with some often blaming her for the death of Sankar.
