Mother and 10th std student commit suicide in Chennai over exam stress

A mother and her daughter studying in 10th standard, committed suicide on Wednesday in Chennai’s Sheikh Abdullah Nagar, police said.

The deceased who were found hanging, have been identified as Kavitha (33) and Rageshwari (15).

According to Rajkumar, Police Grade-1, Virugumbakkam police station, the deceased woman's husband Balasubramani said that both his wife and daughter were stressed about the examination.

He added, "They committed suicide as they were tensed about the girl's studies. The father also said that he had scolded his daughter for not going to tuition classes."

Police in Virugambakkam police station said that Balasubramani works in the film industry.

The HSC exams in the state began on March 15 and are scheduled to end on April 13.
