Medical seats allocated for Dalit students in the state are going unused, while instead private colleges are filling up these seats using heavy donations, alleged former bureaucrat and activist Christodas Gandhi.Despite a grant of Rs. 334.76 crore as post-matric scholarship by the government, he alleged that delay by officials ended up in the wastage of 30 medical seats for dalit students each year, reported New Indian Express.“Private medical colleges are filling up these vacant seats with other students after taking hefty donations from them. Each seat would have cost `3 lakh for a Dalit student, but now they are being sold for more than `25 lakh,” Gandhi alleged at a meeting in Chennai.The Government has cleared 334.76 crores for the year 2015-16, so he appealed that last year’s pending sum of 696 crores should also be cleared since over seats were going unused for the last four years over the delay in providing post-matric scholarship.
