DMK chief Karunanidhi wrote a letter to the Tamil Nadu governor Vidyasagar Rao on Monday stating that the Cauvery issue requires immediate attention and the Tamil Nadu government is unable to present the state’s case effectively.

He said that the Tamil Nadu government is not functioning well because Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is in hospital. The Cauvery issue needs urgent attention and the interests of the farmers are at stake, he stated.

He added that the Karnataka government is disobeying the orders of the Supreme Court and though the opposition parties are protesting, the Tamil Nadu government is unable to put enough pressure on the central government in favour of TN. The BJP at the Centre is also not ready to constitute a Cauvery management board, he said.

He also stated that Dinamalar newspaper had reported that Karnataka government had presented in Delhi, their concerns about Cauvery issue very strongly, but there was nobody from TN to do it on behalf of the state.

The Centre had agreed to constitute the Cauvery committee in 2013 and even the Supreme Court judges have asked that this be done before September 30, 2016. Since the BJP has political interests in Karnataka and they will face consequences, they have not constituted the board, he said.

He has asked the Tamil Nadu governor to take steps to move on all the petitions that leaders from different parties have submitted about the various problems faced by Tamil Nadu.
