Indian Metrological Department said on Wednesday that three districts of Tamil Nadu Kanchipuram, Chennai and Thiruvalluvar are going to face relentless rainfall for the coming three days.

People are advised to take precautions as rainfall is likely to get heavier on Wednesday night.

Along with Tamil Nadu, other parts of coastal South India are also likely to receive rainfall.

The Met department also said that the next 48 hours are going to be crucial and warned about the development of an anti-cyclone and rainfall would continue throughout the next week but the intensity is likely to reduce.

Following three weeks of incessant rain in November as the city of Chennai was preparing to get back to normal, heavy rain pounded the city again on Tuesday which resulted in further deterioration.

The Chennai Airport has also closed down operations till Thursday morning.

Apart from Chennai, suburbs and neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore have been badly affected.

According to the Met department data, the rainfall on Tuesday broke a 100-year-old for rainfall recorded on a single day.
