With an eye on polls, DMK working President MK Stalin will undertake a state-wide tour in November to highlight the failures of the AIADMK government to the people.

The “Ezhuchi” (Awakening in Tamil) campaign will begin in the first week of November and conclude in the first week of December, announced Stalin.  

This comes with local body elections due to be held and with the RK Nagar by-polls scheduled to take place before December 31.

The party, which held its district secretaries meeting in Chennai on Friday, adopted six resolutions.

With local body elections in Tamil Nadu delayed by over a year, the opposition party also called for the immediate conduct of the polls. One of the resolutions called district secretaries to verify the electoral rolls, released recently by the Election Commission and ensure party supporters are not left out.

Earlier this month, the DMK had filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking contempt of court punishment to the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission and the state government for not issuing the notification for the elections. The High Court had directed the EC to finish the electoral process by November 17.

Key among the DMK’s resolutions is announcing Tamil Nadu’s public health a disaster and demanding that the Central and state governments work on a war-footing to address the issue. The resolution comes in the wake of the outbreak of dengue, which has claimed at least 40 lives in the state this year.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Stalin hit out at the ruling AIADMK calling it a “horse trade government” that has given up its state rights to the Centre.

“We have adopted a resolution that the corrupt AIADMK ministers will not be able to escape from their criminal act,” said Stalin.
