Despite the mulitplex boom, some swanky-looking South Indian movie theatres continue to live on

The News Minute | October 11, 2014 | 01.30 pm ISTGone are those days when movie theatres used to resemble stand-alone, boring-looking buildings playing the latest regional flicks of the week. With the architectural boom and appearance of more and more swanky, steel-exterior with glass finish movie theatre multiplexes, the more colourful, extravagantly-designed buildings symbolic of the South are slowly disappearing. If one travels in the interiors of states in South India, it will be hard to miss houses painted in the most striking colours. Here, below are some of South India’s most famous and in a way, "ancient" movie theatres. With colours and designs like these, these buildings will surely be hard to miss.
