At the inaugural address at the 21st state conference of CPI(M)’s Tamil Nadu unit, he said, “"We would like to present before the people of Tamil Nadu, that there is a need for an alternative; a new political alternative. That is what we are going to put forward in our all India Congress," reported The Hindu. Calling what he saw as degeneration, he said that Dravidian movement had been given up by the two parties - the AIADMK and the DMK, said the report.
