Can Karunanidhi's potrait be hung in govt offices? Yes, says an RTI reply

An RTI enquiry filed by the Times of India clarified that portraits of all former chief ministers can be displayed in government offices, said a TOI report. According to the report, portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, architect of the Constitution B R Ambedkar, poet Saint Thiruvalluvar, social reformer Thanthai Periyar, freedom fighters C Rajagopalachari, U Muthuramalinga Thevar, V O Chidambaram and Quaid -e-Millath and all former chief ministers, including Annadurai, K Kamaraj and others, can be displayed at the government offices”, said the RTI reply.Government offices have not shown interest in displaying photos of national leaders and freedom fighters, said the report. According to a G.O dated 1989, potraits of current and former CMs can be kept in government offices without spending the exchequer's money. But, according to activists, government money is being spent on displaying pictures of the leaders.
