AIADMK's Visalakshi Nedunchezhian dies

Veteran AIADMK leader Dr Visalakshi Nedunchezhian died on Monday after an illness for couple of weeks. She was 92-years-old and was also the wife of the Dravidian movement stalwart, VR Nedunchezhian.

On Monday, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa said that her death was an ‘irreparable loss’ to the party, reported The New Indian Express.

Jayalalithaa wrote in a condolence letter that she was pained by the message of the demise of AIADMK’s organizing secretary Dr Visalakshi Nedunchezhian and that she had worked for the party with utmost loyalty and leadership.

Visalakshi Nedunchezhian was a gynaecologist and was working as the Deputy Director of Health Services, retired in 1962. After her husband died in 2000, she joined AIADMK party and also became the organizing secretary. She also headed the Tamil Nadu Commission for Women from 2013 to January, 2016.

The funeral of the leader will be conducted on Tuesday at a crematorium in Besant Nagar. Several AIADMK leaders including E Mudhusudhanan, former minister C Ponnaiyan and Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai visited her house in Alwarpet and paid respects, reported TNIE.
