After 18 days chasing storms across 20,000 miles, this is what a tornado looks like

Not all those who wander are lost… some are just storm chasing.

With these words, attributed to his wife, Mike Olbinski begins his film Vorticity, a time lapse video of storms, made with footage he gathered chasing storms in the United States across 20,000 miles.

Over 18 days, Mike travelled across nine states in the US, capturing clouds swirling across the skies, casting shadows on the grassy land below, rain lashing down, and eventually forming into a tornado. The music too, adds to the effect that the visuals create.

This 6:22-minute video is simply stunning: although the storms mean destruction to life, the earth’s fury is still awe-inspiring, and jaw-droppingly beautiful.
