Thousands of young people in Peru clashed with police over laws that they said would curtail their labour rights.

According to a report in the Associated Press, young people marched in 11 Peruvian cities, over laws passed in December that would give workers between the ages of 18 and 24 lesser protection than older workers. 

Protests in some places turned violent, and pelting sticks and stones at police who fired tear gas shells.
