Senior faculty member Amit Sengupta of IIMC on Friday alleged victimization and targeting of academic and intellectual freedom after resigning from his post, in a YouTube video released on Friday.

He felt that the autonomy of the institute and autonomy of the teaching profession was being targeted.

He said, “I also feel I have been targeted because I went to the Rohith Vemula protest in IIMC. Also because I went and gave a speech in JNU. It was an honour for me to be invited to speak in the open air lectures on learning where the finest of the minds from all over the world are speaking and as a former JNUSU president, it was an honour for me to go and speak in JNU.”

“I will continue to support Rohith Vemula, JNU and FTII struggle and Hyderabad Central University and all struggles of students and teachers because I stand for academic freedom, intellectual freedom, culture of dissent, secularism, pluralism, etc. I will continue to fight for Dalit rights, for student rights.”

He exhorted students to become independent thinkers, have humanity and become good human beings.  

Sengupta quit on Friday after an order was issued transferring him to the premier media school's campus in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, which he slammed as a "political decision".
