Upset over Bihar cooking ban, Nitish Kumar throws slipper at Nitish Kumar

Written by : TNM Staff

In a rather strange incident, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Monday found himself to be the target of a slipper that was thrown at him during a ‘Janta Durbar’ at his residence in the state capital, and funnily enough, the name of the assailant was also Nitish Kumar.

NDTV reported that the five-time chief minister was also seen speaking to the man who threw the slipper after the incident.

"It caught me on my shoulder. See there are marks on my kurta. The police were taking him away, but I called for him and asked him why he did this," the Chief Minister was quoted as saying by NDTV. The youth was taken into police custody at Sachivalaya police station for further questioning.

Multiple media reports state that the youth hurling the slippers hailed form Arwal district and was reportedly upset with a recent government directive against use of fire for cooking and religious purposes between 9 AM-6PM.

NDTV further reported that the CM asked for the early release of his namesake but stayed defiant on the new regulation.

Bihar government said that at least 70 people had died in the two weeks’ time due to fires in villages.
