RBI Governor is not appropriate for the country: Subramanian Swamy

Written by : TNM Staff

Subramanian Swamy who has grabbed headlines recently for his statements on the Agusta Westland Scam in the Rajya Sabha and outside, on Thursday once again insisted that Raghuram Rajan should be ousted from his role as he was responsible for "unemployment and collapse" of industrial activity.

"In my opinion, RBI Governor is not appropriate for the country. I don't want to speak much about him. He has hiked interest rates in the garb of controlling inflation that has damaged the country," he told reporters in Parliament House.

This comes after on Monday when he said RBI governor Raghuram Rajan should be removed from his position before his term ends in September.

“We should kick out the RBI governor. His term is ending in September. But why wait till September? He’s unfit for India,” Swami told Business World.

He had also said that Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian and ‘others like him who have come from the US and have green cards’ should be sacked.

“His (Rajan’s) prescription is like that of a doctor who sees a patient in high fever and says that the only way I can bring down the temperature is to kill him. The only way you can bring down inflation is to kill the industry,” Swamy added.

However, this is not the first Swamy had been critical of the RBI governor, in September last year also called for Rajan’s sacking in a tweet.
