The Congress, on Tuesday, took to flinging accusations at Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, taking a dig at Modi for addressing a pop concert instead of addressing the demonetization issue in the Parliament.

"Why is not the Prime Minister coming to Parliament? Why isn't he coming to Parliament and speaking," asked Gandhi.

"The Prime Minister can speak on TV, can speak at a pop concert, but why not in the Parliament," asked Gandhi referring to Modi's Saturday address at a Coldplay concert.

Gandhi's remarks come on a day when Modi in an emotional speech before BJP MPs vehemently defended the demonetisation move, saying it was done for the benefit of the people.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad later in the day said, "As far as my understanding goes, he (Modi) should have come (to the house) and made the statement."   

"Should the Prime Minister hear and speak just once a year in Parliament?" he asked.

This was followed by Mumbai’s Congress President Sanjay Nirupam demanding that Modi booked for the “murder” of 70 people in connection with the demonetization move.

Nirupam said that millions of people were on the streets and have no money to buy food, medicines or other necessities due to the demonetization.

“These people have been standing in long queues for so many days, waiting to deposit and withdraw their own money which is now stuck in the banks. So far, more than 70 persons have died. One and only person is responsible for all these deaths -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I demand he should be held responsible and booked under Section 302 (of IPC) for murder,” Nirupam said.

Nirupam was interacting with the media during at a widely attended 'Note Pe Charcha' launched by the party on Tuesday to guage the public opinion on post-demonetisation in Mumbai.
