Former Indian cricket skipper Anil Kumble took to Twitter on Tuesday morning reacting to newspaper reports stating that a conflict of interest might have prompted him to leave his position at Mumbai Indians. Kumble stated that the reports were “absolute rubbish” and not the real reason for him quitting the team.

Kumble decided to quit from his position of chief mentor of Mukesh Ambani-owned IPL franchisee Mumbai Indians on Monday after he was appointed to the position in January 2013.

He had earlier been removed as the chief of the technical committee in BCCI’s annual AGM on November 9.

Deccan Chronicle had reported that, “his role with IPL franchise Mumbai Indians was under scanner as he had also joined the board’ commentary panel. It was considered a possible case of conflict of interest which eventually seems to have resulted in his resignation from Mumbai Indians role.”     

It is to the reason as stated by the newspaper to which Kumble wrote on twitter, “Absolute Rubbish! Never was any conflict of interest! Certainly not the reason!!!”

According to Mumbai Indian’s press release, Kumble left the team in order to pursue other opportunities in sports and cricket.
