Parents of a rape survivor in the national capital have approached the Delhi Commission for Women after a school in the city allegedly told them that their daughter has to change schools in order to be promoted to Standard 11.

The school authorities said that the reputation of the institution was affected due to the child’s presence, the parents stated in their complaint.

Following the complaint, the Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the Education Department, reported Heena Kausar for the Hindustan Times.

The parents have also alleged that the school administration told them that the school would not be responsible if something untoward happens.

“The school administration feels that the name of their school will be spoiled if the victim comes to school every day. The school also said that the administration would not take any responsibility for the girl’s safety,” HT quoted the complaint made to the DCW.

In their complaint, the parents added that their child was also not allowed to avail the school bus service.

“This is a very serious matter. The girl is being punished for no fault of hers and it is a very embarrassing and unacceptable matter in today's world," India Today quoted DCW chief Swati Maliwal, as saying.

India Today reported that the principal of the school also reportedly told the victim’s friends not to sit next to her.

The school has been given five days to respond by the DCW, reported India Today.
