Congress, Rajeev Chandrashekar fight for credit over helping Siachen survivor’s family

Written by : TNM Staff

Following news reports that Karnataka MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar helped the family of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, the lone survivor in the Siachen avalanche, to reach Delhi to meet the soldier, the Congress has hit out at him for taking undue credit.

In a series of tweets, several Congress spokespersons and supporters online raised questions over his claims that he helped the soldier’s family to reach Delhi. Calling him “shameless” and a “liar”, Congress supporters accused him of playing politics over a tragedy. Meanwhile, Rajeev hit back at the Karnataka Congress calling their attempts to claim credit “sad and pathetic”.

On Wednesday, the MP met Lance Naik’s family and reportedly arranged flight tickets for the family on an Indigo flight. He received widespread appreciation from media houses and social media for the same. But soon enough, Congress supporters started accusing him of taking undue credit, stating that it was Congress MLA Channabasappa Shivalli who arranged for travel.

The MP however hit back saying that it was the Congress which was claiming undue credit.
