Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt has resigned but it is not clear if the resignation has been accepted, official sources said on Thursday.

Dutt, who took charge in January 2010, submitted his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday, the sources said.

There is no confirmation if his resignation has been accepted, the sources said.

Dutt's resignation came as surprise in political circles here as he was reportedly not under any pressure to quit. He is also said to enjoy good relations with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Uttar Pradesh Governor B.L. Joshi resigned Tuesday amid speculation that the Narendra Modi government wants some of the governors appointed by the previous UPA regime to go.
